Welcome to Sustainable19320

A home for Sustainers and a place to share useful information with our region

Sustainable definition:
"meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs"  (Brundtland report, 1987)
Sustainability has to be system-wide, not an isolated idea. Ideally a system that demands no inputs from outside itself. In our modern interconnected world we may have to aim for the least amount of external inputs, and they should also be from sustainable sources.
It's a framework for planning everything we do, and in some cases could even have a regenerative component beyond sustainability, (e.g. soil regeneration).

About and Action

There are plenty of websites about
sustainability. You will also find the 'about' here, but we also want to bring you the actions that individuals can make. It's actually a great adventure. There are people all over the world inventing, innovating, restructuring, rethinking, reskilling and relocalizing their way towards a better future. And the sooner we join them, the better answers we'll come up with.

A Two World Planet:
Natural world and the people world

We are at a milestone in the history of the people world and its mesmerism with hyper consumerism. The built environment: suburbs, cities, transport systems, water infrastructure, and food production, will be very hard to maintain in an energy and economy-constrained world.

Increase of middle class around the world will stretch all resources to the limit, putting strain on supply chains and cost. Communities less dependent on resources outside their region will be the most resilient.

Climate change will be a further exacerbating factor in all that we do.
Some relocalization of the food system worldwide will be absolutely essential to meet demand.
